VNMU Participates in the Digi-CHange Kick-off Meeting in Riga
Representatives of National Pirogov Memorial Medical University, Vinnytsya (VNMU) took part in the kick-off meeting of the Erasmus+ project ERASMUS-EDU-2025-CBHE-STRAND-2, ERASMUS2027 Digi-CHange (101233888).
VNMU joined the project in October last year. After successfully completing the first preparatory stage, the Digi-CHange partners gathered in Riga to review the initial results and discuss the next steps of cooperation.
The meeting was held on 8–9 January at Riga Technical University in Latvia. VNMU was represented in person by Assoc. Prof. Viktor Revenok from the Department of Biophysics, Medical Equipment and Informatics, while Vice-Rector for Innovation and Public Relations Viktoriia Rodinkova and Prof. Dmytro Dmytriiev from the Department of Anesthesiology, Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine joined online.
A major part of the meeting was devoted to summarizing the first stage of the project, which had lasted for three months. During this period, the working group collected and analysed data on the level of digitalisation of the educational process in the Medicine and Nursing programmes at the university.
The survey results and the information provided by departments and the Simulation Center showed that digitalisation at VNMU is already substantial and continues to expand, mainly thanks to the use of simulation technologies. At the same time, given the rapid development of technology and artificial intelligence, there is still room for improvement, which is why the university was pleased to join this new digital transformation project.
Under the project terms, VNMU will acquire a microscope slide scanner and a dermatoscope, which will be used primarily to support the digitalisation of the Medicine and Nursing programmes. For this reason, part of the Riga meeting was dedicated to discussing the most suitable equipment specifications within the allocated budget of 55,000 euros.
Each partner institution also presented its profile, history, and current capabilities. In addition to VNMU, the Ukrainian partner in the consortium is Ternopil National Medical University. The project is coordinated by Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy in Georgia, while the other partners include Ilia State University and the K. Eristavi National Center of Experimental and Clinical Surgery in Georgia, Riga Technical University, Dublin City University in Ireland, and INFOR ELEA in Italy.
The partners discussed the main elements of future cooperation, including the dissemination strategy, the organization of project-related meetings in the form of lectures or seminars for students and faculty, and the possibility of involving students in research work within Digi-CHange. They also considered how to integrate the results of digitalisation into teaching and how to coordinate work within the consortium through regular meetings, phased task implementation, and work packages planned for each of the three project years.
These work packages include the development of training scenarios for students, doctors, and nurses, as well as the use of simulation and artificial intelligence in the educational process. According to the project requirements, 60% of the educational components of Medicine and Nursing should be digitalised, and 50% should be updated to include digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
The participants also toured Riga Technical University and visited, among other places, the wind power unit installed on the university roof.
