VNMU Joins the Erasmus+ Digi-CHange Project on Digital Transformation of Medical Education

National Pirogov Memorial Medical University, Vinnytsya (VNMU) has become a participant in the new EU Erasmus+ CBHE project “Digital transformation and curriculum development for teams in healthcare” (Digi-CHange), grant number 101233888.

The agreement was signed by the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) and a consortium of partners from Georgia, Ukraine, Latvia, Ireland, and Italy, including VNMU. The other Ukrainian participant is Ternopil National Medical University.

The project coordinator is the Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy (Georgia).

The Digi-CHange project aims at the digital transformation of medical education and the modernization of medical and nursing curricula in line with the priorities of the WHO Global Strategy on Digital Health 2020–2025. Its goal is to overcome barriers to the implementation of digital medicine related to the lack of knowledge among healthcare professionals and the conservatism of traditional educational approaches, as well as to develop interdisciplinary collaboration among teams of doctors, nurses, IT specialists, and business representatives.

Within the project, the consortium will develop and test modern digital modules that can be integrated into medical and nursing training programs. These innovative approaches will incorporate telemedicine, digital diagnostics, work with electronic data, and interprofessional team interaction.

The project provides for the creation of joint educational products and new learning formats that will enable future specialists to work confidently in the context of digital transformation of healthcare systems.

The duration of the Digi-CHange project is 36 months. VNMU will receive €102,787 under the grant agreement for the implementation of project tasks. The funds will be used, in particular, for the purchase of equipment for the digitalization of the “Medicine” and “Nursing” educational programs — including a device for analyzing microscopic samples, a dermatoscope, and other digital equipment.

The ultimate result of the university’s participation in Digi-CHange will be the establishment of a Center for Digitalization of Education at VNMU. This center will ensure the integration of modern technologies into the educational process, support faculty members in developing digital modules, and prepare students to work in a modern, technology-oriented healthcare system.
